Shelter Care in Tallmadge: THE HIGHLANDS

Project Day
Saturday, October 2nd from 8:30 – noon
Project Scope:
Currently the only licensed residential teen pregnancy shelter in the state of Ohio, providing critical services to homeless and at-risk pregnant or parenting teens, ages 14-21, and their babies. The Highlands has capacity for five mothers and five babies at a time, in which the pair is invited to stay for up to three years after the baby is born, or until the mother turns 21.

1. Landscaping and yard clean up
2. Assembly and installation of backyard pergola (need a carpenter)
3. Picnic bench for back yard assembly
4. Sitting area under pergola assembly of rocker and table
5. Installation of outdoor security lighting for backyard

PROJECT SCOPE
Established in Cleveland, Ohio in 2020, by three women who grew up together in East Cleveland. DNA RISING seeks to bring single mothers and veterans out of homelessness by providing safe, renovated permanent housing upon completion of education, job training and recovery programs in partnership with various community organizations that serve the homeless. DNA RISING has purchased a home that will undergo extensive renovations this summer and spring.
